Studio Policies & Logistics
Congratulations on joining Spotlight Vocal Studio! I am thrilled you have selected my studio to hone your vocal skills, and I’m so excited for you to begin your musical journey with me. Please read over the following studio information and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you again for being here with me, and I can’t wait to make music with you soon!
GENERAL POLICIES
Please show up on time to lessons. I realize you’re often coming from another class, but please do your best to be punctual.
If you are running late for a summer lesson, please communicate this to Rosie at a safe time to do so. DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE.
If you are late for a lesson for a non-emergent reason, that time is lost. Your lesson will be the length of time remaining and will not be prorated financially.
If you are late or miss a lesson for an emergency or scheduled personal appointment, lessons will be rescheduled at a mutually agreeable time.
No-show or non-emergent missed lessons will not be made up. The student is still financially responsible for Rosie’s time.
Lessons are scheduled on a weekly basis. Lessons will align with the school calendar for major holidays and vacations.
HOW TO BE PREPARED FOR YOUR VOICE LESSONS
Please have your music (in a binder, vocal compilation books, etc), pencil, and water bottle with you for lessons.
You are welcome to record your voice lessons either with a recording device, Iphone, etc.
Please practice at least 15 minutes every day. Even if this is just doing your vocal warm ups and exercises, this makes a huge difference.
Be prepared to work and persevere. You will make mistakes, sound wonky, and make silly sounds along your vocal journey. Embrace it and do your best.
Not all voice lessons will be the same. Some will focus heavily on technique and warm ups, some will focus more on character development, performance, and intention. Your level of vocal preparation will dictate the focus of the lesson.
Rosie’s motto is “get it done while having fun”. Singing should always be fun and bring joy, even if it’s hard sometimes. Rosie will always give you 100% effort in your lessons, and she expects the same from you.
If you are having a hard day or stretch of time in your life, and singing/practicing hasn’t been able to be a priority, you can always share this with Rosie. Your lesson time is a safe space for you to communicate your feelings, and if you ever need help Rosie is here to support you.
RECITALS & VOCAL COMPETITIONS
Recital Fee: $25 (includes dress rehearsal/recital/admin)
There will be 2 recitals per year, and student participation is highly encouraged. *If the idea of performing at a recital gives you intense anxiety, and you are not pursuing a performance based college degree, you do not need to participate in the recital. This decision can be reached between the student, parent/guardian, and Rosie.
There will be optional opportunities to compete in the local National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions. Participation will be highly encouraged. More information to come during lessons.
